The images for these paintings were chosen from a range of sources including: eBay, the V&A, the Burrell Collection, the British Museum, the Metropolitan Museum in New York, the National Museum of Scotland, Museum nan Eilean in Stornoway, Edmund de Waal’s grandfather’s collection of netsuke, Edinburgh Castle and Sotheby’s sale catalogues. These objects have variously been used, utilised, played with, revered, bought, acquired, possessed and stolen. What these ‘Collected’ objects have in common is that they are all forms that I felt I’d like to paint.
